A Technique for Producing Ideas is a book that I like to revert to when I'm feeling @ a loss for good ideas. It turns out that actually, there's a reason fabulous ideas bubble up at odd times. The book is called A Technique for Producing Ideas by James Webb Young. Young is known by many as the father of modern advertising (don't hate him). Well, according to James Webb Young in his book 'A Technique for Producing Ideas', first published in the 1940s: “An idea is nothing more nor less than a new combination of old elements.”. I guess you'll have read “A Technique for Producing Ideas” by James Webb Young. He is a predecessor of Draper Daniels, the real person on whom Don Draper is based. I just finished re-reading this classic written in the 60's for about the 4th time. In his seminal work, A Technique for Producing Ideas, James W. Young suggests doing as much research as you can, cataloguing your findings and then doing something completely different. In the newspaper that I mentioned in my last post, Oldham quotes a book that he recommends to his readers. Writer Kirby Ferguson has summarized a 1965 book called A Technique for Producing Ideas, a method intended to produce new ideas eureka-style.
